The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs were selected by the league coaches as the overall and North division preseason favorite in the NSIC in 2012.The Bulldogs received nine first-place votes and amassed 217 points, six more than St. Cloud State (211), which garnered six other first place votes.
Minnesota State Mankato was picked third overall, received a first place vote and was the coaches' top choice in the South. Winona State (175) was fourth in the poll and picked second in the South while Augustana (169) was fifth overall and third in the South.
Bull claims medalist honors
Jesse Bull of Minneapolis shot a 35-31-66 (6-under par) to claim medalist honors at Tuesday's sectional qualifying for the 32nd U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at the Minnetonka Country Club in Excelsior. A total of five players advanced from the starting field of 79. Also advancing were Sammy Schmitz of Apple Valley, Jordan Hawkinson of Grant, Minn., Jesse Polk of Farmington and Dan Moline of Duluth.
Saints beat Fargo-Moorhead
St. Paul Saints starter Luke Anderson allowed two runs on eight innings in eight-plus innings to lead the Saints to an 8-2 victory over Fargo-Moorhead, stopping the RedHawks' 14 game home winning streak.
Anderson struck out six and walked two.
