Denver's top scorer turns pro

Last update: February 7, 2008 - 9:45 PM

A second star WCHA player has left his team in midseason for pro hockey.

On Thursday, the University of Denver announced that sophomore Brock Trotter has signed a three-year, entry-level, free-agent contract with the Montreal Canadiens.

Trotter had 13 goals and 18 assists for a team-high 31 points. The Pioneers (18-8, 12-6) are third in the WCHA standings.

The Gophers, who play at Denver tonight and Saturday, can sympathize. Minnesota sophomore forward Kyle Okposo signed with the New York Islanders in late December.

Trotter will report to Hamilton of the AHL and could play as soon as Saturday.
