The Gophers men's track and field team came up short in its bid to win its fourth consecutive Big Ten indoor championship, finishing with 100 points to winner Indiana's 104 in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday.

The Gophers' Harun Abda set the Big Ten's all-time record in the 600 in 1 minute, 15.86 seconds, breaking former Gopher Tom Gerding's mark of 1:16.19 in 2001. The junior also won the 400 in 46.51 seconds, edging Nebraska's Ricco Hall by .2 seconds. Micah Hegerle (weight throw) and Hassan Mead (5,000) also won conference titles.

• The Gophers women's team finished 11th in the 11-team meet with 11 points. Host Nebraska won the title.

Augsburg wrestlers win regional The Augsburg wrestling team, as host, won the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional for the 10th year in a row and will send seven individuals to the national championships, March 9-10 in La Crosse, Wis.

Five Auggies won individual titles, including Tony Valek at 149 pounds and Orlando Ponce at 157. They are four-time national tournament qualifiers.

Etc. • The Gophers men's swimming and diving team finished fourth at the Big Ten championships in Iowa City with 403 points. Michigan had 738 1/2 points to win its 36th conference title.

• Jonathan Capasso hit a two-run triple in the 10th inning as the Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team beat the Gophers 3-1 in the second game of a doubleheader. The Gophers won the first game 5-3.

• The Gophers softball team split two games at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C., losing to host North Carolina 1-0 before beating James Madison 9-1.

• The Gophers men's tennis team improved to 4-0 at the Baseline Tennis Center by beating Wisconsin 6-1. Rok Bonin improved to 5-1 at No. 3 singles.

• The Gophers women's swimming and diving team announced that the Gopher-It Invite scheduled for Sunday was canceled. No reason was given for the cancellation.

• St. Olaf scored two third-period goals to beat host and top-seeded St. Thomas 4-3 in the MIAC men's hockey semifinals. The Oles visit Gustavus Adolphus in the title game Saturday after the second-seeded Gusties beat St. John's 3-1.
