Star Tribune writer Phil Miller, who covers University of Minnesota football, was among the winners named Wednesday in the Associated Press Sports Editors annual contest.

Miller, who previously covered major league baseball and the NBA, took over the Star Tribune's Gophers football beat last season.

Other winners in the division for newspapers with more than 175,000 circulation were Greg Bedard, Boston Globe; Doug Lesmerises, Cleveland Plain Dealer; Evan Grant, The Dallas Morning News; Troy E. Renck, The Denver Post; Gary Klein, Los Angeles Times;  Joe Drape, The New York Times; Joe Strauss, St. Louis Post-Dispatch; Adam Kilgore, Washington Post, and Jeff Passan, Yahoo! Sport.

Earlier this week, the Star Tribune received Top 10 honors for its Sunday sports section, Twins special section and multimedia coverage of Harmon Killebrew's death.
