Carly Benson scored 23 points, and the Michigan women's basketball team beat Michigan State 64-55 Sunday in Ann Arbor, ending a nine-game losing streak against the Spartans.
Krista Phillips, Michigan's 6-6 Canadian center, helped the Wolverines (10-5, 3-2 Big Ten) slow 6-9 counterpart Allyssa DeHaan, with the Spartans standout held to nine points on 4-for-11 shooting.
"I played against some big girls in Canada, but I didn't have any experience at all with anyone taller than me," Phillips said.
The Spartans (10-8, 2-4) were 6-1 at the end of November but have gone 4-7 since.
Iowa 78, Wisconsin 74 (OT): Jolene Anderson scored 42 points and became the Badgers' all-time scoring leader, but the Hawkeyes (10-7, 3-3) hit six of eight free throws in overtime to win in Iowa City.
Anderson made 13 of 27 field goals and was 13-for-13 on free-throw attempts, but she was the only player to score in double figures for Wisconsin (8-7, 1-4). She has 2,004 career points, topping Barb Franke's record of 1,994.
"I wasn't worried about the scoring record," Anderson said. "It was going to come sooner or later."
No. 19 Ohio State 77, Northwestern 55: Jantel Lavender had 15 points and 12 rebounds to help the Buckeyes (13-3, 4-1) beat the Wildcats (4-13, 0-5) in Evanston, Ill.
