SERIES PREVIEW: GOPHERS AT MICHIGAN STATE

WHEN/WHERE: 6 P.M. FRIDAY/SATURDAY AT MUNN ARENA, EAST LANSING, MICH.

TV/RADIO: FSN AND 1500ESPN BOTH NIGHTS.

Records: Gophers 11-3 overall, 8-2 WCHA; Michigan State 7-5, 4-4 CCHA

Gophers at a glance: The No. 2/3 Gophers will try to reclaim the Mariucci-Bessone Trophy from Michigan State this weekend. They were 4-0-5 against the Spartans from 2001 to 2009 until losing to them 5-2 a year ago. ... Sophomore center Nick Bjugstad has five goals, including a hat trick, in his past three games. He is second in the nation in goals with 13 and tied for first in points with 21. ... The Gophers are averaging an NCAA-best 4.36 goals per game.

Spartans at a glance: No. 20 Michigan State, under new coach Tom Anastos, started the season 2-4, then won five games in a row, holding each opponent to two goals. The winning streak ended Saturday when the Spartans lost 2-1 at Northern Michigan. Defenseman and captain Torey Krug and second-leading scorer Greg Wolfe (4-8--12) received game disqualifications that day. Both must sit out the first game of this series.
