Gophers-DePaul game preview

  • Updated: November 23, 2011 - 10:45 PM

Gophers at a glance: After winning four home games against smaller programs to start the season -- including Monday's blowout of Mount St. Mary's -- the Gophers' non-conference schedule ramps up a bit starting Thursday at the Old Spice Classic in Orlando. The three games in this tournament are Minnesota's only contests away from Williams Arena during non-Big Ten play. ... Ralph Sampson III's status is uncertain. The senior rolled his ankle last week and missed Monday's game, which Elliott Eliason started in his place. Sampson was held out of contact drills Wednesday. ... Austin Hollins, Andre Hollins and Joe Coleman all had career highs in points against Mount St. Mary's and hope to carry that momentum into this tournament.

DePaul at a glance: The Blue Demons are 2-0 after home victories over UT-Pan American and Mississippi Valley State. But they were 7-24 last year, including 1-17 in the Big East. Conference coaches picked them last among 16 teams in a preseason poll. ... Guards Jeremiah Kelly and Brandon Young scored in double figures in both of DePaul's games and could challenge the Gophers' young backcourt. ... The Blue Demons have attempted 51 three-pointers in two games.
