Steve Johnson spent the month of January teaching a unique class rather than making a final pitch to recruits.
"We called the class 'Band of Brothers,'" Johnson said. "That's the greatest television drama ever made. We followed the World War II movements of Easy Company as they were laid out in the book and the TV series."
Johnson led a coed delegation of 24 students. They started at the site of Camp Toccoa in Georgia, where the Easy Company paratroopers trained by running up and down Currahee Mountain.
"We didn't run it; we walked up Currahee," Johnson said.
The group then went to England, where Easy Company waited and prepared for the Normandy Invasion. From there, they went to the Continent, following Easy Company's airborne landing in Normandy, for Operation Market Garden, to the Battle of Bastogne and onto Germany for the end of the war.
"It was a tremendous experience for all of us," Johnson said. "And I don't think we lost any recruits that we were planning on back here, either."
