The Gophers will unveil their new spread offense and new quarterback this Saturday. Here are a few questions the offense faces this season:
Will the spread offense work? The players have gradually become more comfortable with this offense and how it works. It could take some time before things really start to click but it has the potential to be a fun offense to watch.
Is Adam Weber ready? The redshirt freshman was clearly the best quarterback in camp and has a lot of athletic ability. But he is young, and that might lead to some growing pains.
What is the offense's strength? Running back. Senior Amir Pinnix has his sights set on 1,500 rushing yards. True freshman Duane Bennett is an exciting young talent. Jay Thomas has big-time speed.
How is the wide receiver corps? Young and inexperienced outside of Ernie Wheelwright and Eric Decker. Three and possibly four true freshmen will see playing time. That puts pressure on Wheelwright and Decker.
Who will have a breakout season? Tight end Jack Simmons. The tight end is a critical position in this offense and Simmons looks like he can be a go-to guy in the passing game.
