Several of the U.S.'s best swimmers, including world record holder Kate Ziegler and Olympic medalists Erik Vendt and Kaitlin Sandeno, will compete in the Minnesota/Toyota Swimming Grand Prix Nov. 9-11 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The meet is the first in the seven-event Toyota Grand Prix series. Many of the competitors are preparing for this summer's U.S. Olympic trials and the Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Beijing.

Ziegler broke the longest-standing world record in swimming last June when she swam the 1,500-meter freestyle in 15 minutes, 42.54 seconds, surpassing Janet Evans' mark set in 1988. Sandeno won three medals, including a relay gold, at the 2004 Olympics. Vendt is a two-time silver medalist in the 400 individual medley.

Preliminaries are at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. each day. Admission is $6.

Fourth-seeded St. Olaf (11-8, 6-4 MIAC) will travel to play No. 2 seed Gustavus (15-3-1, 9-1 MIAC) at 1 p.m. Saturday. The winner will earn the MIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
