Gophers Replay

Last update: October 7, 2007 - 10:33 PM

INDIANA 40, GOPHERS 20

Recap: The Gophers' fourth consecutive loss gave them their worst start (1-5) since 1992. The loss came one season after the Gophers defeated Indiana 63-26. The Gophers gave up 199 yards in the first quarter, 274 in the first half and trailed 27-14 at halftime. Freshman quarterback Adam Weber completed 24 of 44 passes for 280 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. The Gophers managed only 112 rushing yards.

UP NEXT: AT NORTHWESTERN

When, TV: 11 a.m. Saturday, Big Ten Network

Records: Gophers 1-5, 0-3 Big Ten; Northwestern 3-3, 1-2

The skinny: These two teams didn't play in the previous Big Ten schedule rotation so this is their first meeting since 2004, when the Gophers won 43-17. Northwestern figures to be riding high after putting up 611 total yards in a 48-41 overtime victory at Michigan State. The Wildcats operate out of a spread offense, which always gives the Gophers defense nightmares.

BIG TEN SNEAK PREVIEW

NO. 19 WISCONSIN AT PENN STATE

When: 2:30 p.m. Saturday

Records: Wisconsin 5-1, 2-1 Big Ten; Penn State 4-2, 1-2

The skinny: The Badgers are in the unfamiliar position of looking to rebound after losing to Illinois on Saturday. It will be interesting to see how they respond emotionally to a tough loss, and Happy Valley won't be an easy venue for them. Penn State's offense still is too inconsistent, but the Nittany Lions probably feel better about themselves after defeating Iowa.

Now the good times

Illinois survived the bad times. Now, let's see how it handles prosperity. The Fighting Illini proved they are for real in defeating Penn State and Wisconsin in consecutive weeks. They play at free-falling Iowa on Saturday. Another victory would give them even more momentum with Michigan coming to town the following week.
