GOPHERS OFFENSE VS. OHIO STATE DEFENSE

The Gophers have moved the ball and scored points, but they have not faced a defense as good as this one. The Buckeyes rank second nationally in total defense and third in scoring defense. The Gophers absolutely must take better care of the ball to have any shot. They have committed 11 turnovers the past two games and 16 for the season. Advantage: Ohio State

BUCKEYES OFFENSE VS. GOPHERS DEFENSE

Ohio State lost a ton of talent from last season, including Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith, but the offense has started to click. The Buckeyes scored 58 points against Northwestern last week and are getting solid play from quarterback Todd Boeckman. The Gophers, ranked last nationally in total defense, have to slow down powerful running back Chris Wells and also be mindful of play-action passes deep down the field. Advantage: Ohio State

SPECIAL TEAMS

Super-fast Ted Ginn Jr. is in the NFL, but the Buckeyes still have talent in the return and kicking game. The Gophers gave up a 95-yard return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff last week. However, their special teams have been solid for the most part. Advantage: Even

INTANGIBLES

The Buckeyes are playing with a lot of confidence. Wayzata product James Laurinaitis is the heart and soul of the Buckeyes defense and is eager to play well in front of his family and friends. Look for him to really energize his team. Advantage: Ohio State

PREDICTION

Ohio State dismantled the Gophers 44-0 in Columbus last season. It might not be that lopsided again tonight, but the Buckeyes still have tons of talent on both sides of the ball and should win their 23rd consecutive regular-season game. Ohio State 38, Gophers 17
