Preview: The last time the Gophers (12-4, 1-3 Big Ten) and Boilermakers (15-1, 4-0) met, Purdue embarrassed itself in a 69-42 loss during last year's Big Ten tournament semifinals. But the Boilermakers are one of the best teams in America, despite losing Robbie Hummel because of a torn ACL during the first week of practice. Forward/center JaJuan Johnson (19.4 points per game) and guard E'Twaun Moore (18.8 ppg) form one of the top tandems in college basketball.
Why the Gophers will win: Their size frustrated Purdue in the Big Ten tournament, where they held Moore to two points (1-for-14). Plus, Trevor Mbakwe has 10 double-doubles this season. Even if he doesn't start, he'll have an impact on the game once he hits the floor.
Why the Gophers will lose: The Boilermakers haven't lost since Nov. 27 (65-54 vs. Richmond). Johnson and Moore have a sort of chemistry that's lacking in the Gophers, who've used five starting lineups this season. And Purdue's opponents have shot 38.8 percent from the field, the lowest in the Big Ten.
