Nestled within a beautiful housing development in Prior Lake, Minnesota, The Wilds Golf Club is a spectacular venue for golfers of all skill levels. It is particularly challenging in that it provides all sorts of hazards including fairway and green bunkers, woods, roughs, ponds and houses that are located very close to the fairway on many of the holes. Each hole is a golf experience within itself making each player think hard about strategy and where to carefully place each shot.
The fairways are plush and well maintained. Tee boxes, too, are large, immaculate and extremely well groomed. The pin placements make each golfer think about how to approach each green and to get as close to the cup as possible because the greens are very fast, as they should be, for this type of golf course. There are several signature holes on the course but one that is memorable is Hole #8. This hole is a 529 yard par 5 that has all of the above hazards but also undulating hills that make it even more challenging.
Beverage cart service is provided with the all of the liquid necessities to keep players hydrated. The service was frequent and friendly. Customer service, in general, is first class at The Wilds. From the valet service in the parking lot to the starters and rangers, to the clubhouse staff and restaurant employees, they are well trained for what they do. They make all golfers feel right at home with their professionalism and courtesy. The staff realizes that all golfers are their personal customers and they need to be treated with care to assure that they will return to play again.
Concrete cart paths are located throughout the course not only to provide a smooth ride but also to allow for water to drain properly. The course itself looks to have a great drainage system that will handle all sorts of stormwater. The course has many trees that come into play. Try to cut corners but be careful, as it is easy for the ball to get hung up in the woods. Safer shots down the fairway should be the goal on most of the holes.
The clubhouse is fantastic and built in a Frank Lloyd Wright sort of architecture. Many events are held at the clubhouse. Banquets, weddings, anniversary parties, receptions, etc., are common for The Wilds. The Sunday brunch is outstanding with great food and it is affordably priced.
The Wilds plays over 7,000 yards from the black tees and just about 6,500 from the Championship tees. Golfers need to calculate their distance abilities before selecting what tees they prefer to uss.
Distance markers and signage are very visible so one should not get lost playing here.
Golfers need to check out The Wilds and make a tee time to play. This is truly an outstanding golf experience.
