Koronis Hills Golf Course in Paynesville, Minnesota, is very impressive on arrival. The beautiful flowers at the entrance are so high that you can barely make out the sign (on giant rocks) for the club. The landscaping around the clubhouse is great, and many well-cared-for plants and flowers make it very inviting.
Koronis Hills is a semi-private course that is open to the public. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. The clubhouse has a good supply of merchandise that is reasonably priced. Range balls are inexpensive for a good-sized bucket, and the driving range is convenient and well marked. The carts are clean and in good condition. The course itself is very scenic. There are many huge trees and the views from everywhere are great. There are some narrow fairways because of the many trees, but it's very pretty and isn't too much of a problem. We hackers didn't lose very many balls. The tee boxes could use some work-they seem to have a lot of divots. It appeared that either the course had a tournament recently or it just gets a lot of play.
The tees are blue, white and green, but some are not facing in the direction to hit. There are a lot of yardage markers-not just sprinkler heads-in addition to the 200, 150 and 100. We didn't figure out until we finished that pin placements are marked with caps on the 150 markers. All of the tee boxes are marked with large granite stones showing the layout, even on the forward tees. The forward tees also have ball washers and benches. The whole course is in great shape (except for the divots at the tees). They had punched the greens, but they were pretty good considering that.
The only real disappointment of our day was that there was nothing to eat. They had chips and candy but said they were completely out of sandwiches, which seems strange for a Sunday. Also, there was no sign of a beverage cart, but there was plenty of pop and beer in the clubhouse. Staff and other golfers are very pleasant. Overall it's a very pretty and fun course to play!
