Chisago Lakes Golf Course's website gives you an excellent sense of what you will find at this fun track in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Located just outside the Metro area, it is an easy drive from the Twin Cities. The course offers deals for juniors and seniors, and the website has coupons that make it even more reasonable.
When you arrive, walk to the deck that serves the pro shop and restaurant, and everything you need is there. An ample putting green with a large bunker and chipping area accurately replicate what is on the course. The 12- station driving range has a number of well-marked targets, and the 1st and 10th tees are in sight. The pro shop is well stocked and the personnel are well dressed, knowledgeable and very friendly.
The first thing you notice is that this is a clean course. The tee boxes are at- tractive and well maintained, and you will struggle to find a rock or debris in the well-groomed bunkers. The turf appears freshly and consistently mowed. Each hole bears excellent signage that includes an aerial photo of the hole with distances marked to hazards and doglegs. High handicappers need to swallow some pride as the shortest men's tees are uncomfortably close to the forward tees. The hazards, in the form of water, sand and an abundance of trees, are out there, but they can be avoided if you play the distance that is appropriate to your game.
Chisago Lakes is a picturesque course. Trees and ponds and a general up- north atmosphere coupled with the hilly terrain make you forget you are so near the Cities. It is difficult to get lost or thirsty as the ranger and beverage cart are never far away and visit often. Pace of play may be impacted because the course allows fivesomes, and there are also a lot of walkers. Reasonably priced, accommodating and very playable while still offering plenty of chal- lenge, Chisago Lakes is a great option for hackers.
