Situated in the southeastern corner of Scott County, Boulder Pointe Golf Club offers an interesting golf experience. The golf course measures nearly 6,300 yards from the back tips. The course does provide an opportunity for a challenge for all levels of skill. Water, sand and woods are part of the design. The course is built within the Boulder Pointe housing development so some fairways are very tight while others open up but wooded areas also share some of the boundaries along the golf course. Errant shots can result in penalty strokes if the golfer is not careful. Strategic shots need to be played in order to score well here. There are a variety of hazards to avoid, from water to sand, to long roughs and heavily wooded areas.
The course had experienced some damage due to heavy rains during the spring and early summer of 2011. Some fairways and greens have experienced damage either due to the rains or winterkill. Some traps were full of water and were unplayable. With less rain and ongoing maintenance, the course should come back in great shape. Tee boxes are well maintained. Greens were wet but were cut in such a way that they were very fast.
The day the course was re-rated, the heat index was well over 100 degrees. Players expected a beverage cart to come around with plenty of water and other beverages. The beverage cart did not appear. There normally is a beverage cart but, perhaps, the club did not want to put any staff member in jeopardy due to the heat. This is certainly understandable. However, players probably should have been made aware that there wouldn't be a beverage cart on the course for this particular day. That way they could have purchased beverages before venturing out for a round of golf. The golf carts are equipped with GPS but this feature was not in service on this particular day.
The golf course is picturesque with many beautiful homes surrounding it. There is also an outdoor swimming pool owned by the golf club. It was busy the day the course was reviewed as mentioned and it was a hot.
The clubhouse is very large and can accommodate golf tournaments and various corporate outings. There is a bar/grill inside and a patio overlooking the course. The pro shop is well stocked with a variety of merchandise at reasonable prices.
Elko New Market has about 5,000 residents. Persons moving here look at Boulder Pointe as an added incentive to locate in the area.
