WGC: The HSBC Champions, the first tournament in Asia with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in a field together, is in its first season as a World Golf Championship event. The 78-man field includes 15 of the top 20 in the world ranking. ... Woods, making his first start since the Presidents Cup, has 16 victories in 30 WGC starts. He finished second in 2005 (David Howell) and 2006 (Y.E. Yang) in this event.
LPGA: Mizuno Classic defending champion Jiyai Shin, a three-time LPGA Tour winner this year, finished sixth last week in South Korea to wrap up the Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year award. Shin leads Lorena Ochoa by 10 points in the player of the year race with three events left. Nancy Lopez (1978) is the only player to win both in a season.
