Notes

PGA: Matt Kuchar, a two-time winner this year, tops the Canadian Open field along with Brandt Snedeker, Graeme McDowell, Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan, Dustin Johnson, Charl Schwartzel, Ernie Els, Luke Donald and two-time winner Jim Furyk. ... Pat Fletcher, born in England, was the last Canadian winner, taking the 1954 event at Point Grey in Vancouver. Carl Keffer is the only Canadian-born champion, winning in 1909 and 1914.

Champions: Fred Couples tied for 32nd in the British Open. Peter Senior, Tom Lehman, Mark O’Meara and Sandy Lyle also made the cut at Muirfield. O’Meara won the 1998 British Open at Royal Birkdale, also the site of his 1987 victory in the Lawrence Batley International. ... Tom Watson won the last of his five British Open titles in 1983 at Royal Birkdale. ... Colin Montgomerie is making his first start in the event, the last of the Champions Tour’s five majors. ... The 3M Championship is next week in Blaine.

LPGA: The tour is off this week. The next event is the Women’s British Open, Aug. 1-4.
