Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Stu's Hunt Down: Former Wolves player Troy Hudson

Please enjoy a piping hot bowl of Commenter Stu as he jogs your memory in a way that only he can. Stu?

--------------------

The Huntdown

Name: Troy “T-Hud” Hudson

Claim to Fame, Minnesota: the oft-injured point guard played for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2002-2007. As this Sports Illustrated NBA preview from the halcyon days of 2002 notes, Hudson was a streaky shooter who got his break as a replacement for the oft-injured point guard Terrell Brandon. His best run with the team came against the Lakers in the 2003 playoffs, where he averaged 23.5 points and 5.5 assists. He signed a lucrative contract extension afterwards, ruined his ankle in a preseason game, then played a total of 70 games from 2005-2007 before the Wolves bought out his contract.

NOTE: “Oft-injured point guard” is an actual roster spot on the Timberwolves, as is “Eastern European project that will never, ever pan out.”

Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: as our readers in Yakima and Sioux Falls well know, Hudson played for the Sun Kings and Skyforce in their respective cities. His NBA stops included Utah, the Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando, and Golden State. Hip-hop fans may recall that Hudson also released his own album, Undrafted, which featured collaborations with the Oscar-winning Three 6 Mafia and noted Kardashian-filmer Ray J. It sold poorly.

Where He Is Now: Hudson has stayed in the music industry as the owner and CEO of Troy Hudson Enterprises. His most well-known artist is probably former American Idol contestant Paris Bennett.

Has He Blogged at the Huffington Post: yes.

Does He Still Have the Hair: no.

Is He On Twitter: no.

Glorious Randomness: Hudson is a native of Carbondale, Illinois (town motto: “Haven’t You Heard?”). As you likely know, Carbondale is the home of the Fuller Dome Home, which was built by the late R. Buckminster Fuller. Fuller popularized geodesic domes and thus can be held personally responsible for the Pauly Shore/Stephen Baldwin vehicle Bio-Dome. History’s greatest monster? Perhaps.

Afternoon talker: How many All-Star games will Kevin Love play in?

We really went out on a limb today on Page 2, suggesting Kevin Love will make somewhere between one and 10 All-Star appearances. The bigger point was that the Wolves' track record of All-Stars isn't all that great ...

Kevin Love is the fifth Wolves player to make an All-Star team in franchise history. One, of course, was Kevin Garnett — who made it 10 times with Minnesota and played with the other three All-Stars. Those three players defined different eras in the franchise’s history. They also made only one All-Star team each with the Wolves:

Tom Gugliotta (1997) — Most people remember KG and Stephon Marbury from the 1996-97 Wolves, the first team in franchise history to make the playoffs. But “Googs” averaged more than 20 points per game on that squad and joined Garnett, making his first All-Star appearance, at the celebrated game.

Wally Szczerbiak (2002) — A representative of the “one-and-done” playoff era of the Wolves, Szczerbiak was a one-time All-Star.

Sam Cassell (2004) — The glory year. And, you know, the time before Cassell (quickly) wore out his welcome.

Our question this afternoon, as we turn to things that are not the Super Bowl, is this: What type of player do you think Love is -- a one-hit wonder, a guy who will make a few appearances, or a guy destined for a whole bunch during his career?

TFD: The Friday apology list and an idea for a new feature -- Brushes With Greatness

Commenter Clarence Swamptown liked our "Friday Apology List" so much a few weeks back that he thought it would make a nice weekly feature. Sadly, we don't offend enough people on a regular basis and didn't really have much to apologize the past couple of Fridays.

This week, if the comments are any indication, we have offended plenty. Nice! OK, so we take no great pleasure in that, actually, and we don't just write things to stir the pot. But we also don't have a problem having a minority opinion on Kevin Love. To reiterate for those who think we hate Love: We don't. In fact, we are quite infatuated with his game and his season. We just don't think he's an All-Star. Yet. Sorry if that makes you sad. Agree to disagree.

On another note, our pal MC Creme Fraiche had a splendid idea for a new commenter feature called "Brushes with Greatness." Basically, we're looking for stories about how you met sports celebrities in random places, and what happened during those fleeting moments. These should generally be positive and/or funny. We're not looking for dirt. Just good stories. If there's a photo that goes with them (to help verify), all the better. We're hoping a different friend will deliver the first installment, about the time he gave a prominent NCAA football coach a ride in his Mitsubishi Montero.

Have you had a similar brush with greatness? You know where to find us.

And if you didn't know: Twins President Dave St. Peter is now on Twitter. Go follow him!
