TFD: Corey Brewer gets the soft landing he deserves in Dallas

Ex-Wolves player Corey Brewer, a nice and classy guy according to most (including us), has landed in Dallas with a multi-year contract, according to Yahoo. Perhaps the Mavs can make good use of his skill set. We'll leave you with a tweet from Brewer from yesterday. Sounds like his heart is still right here. It would sure be nice if he could specify which point in the future this is:

This is significant for a couple of reasons: The opponent in that home game was the Los Angeles Lakers, who happen to be the Wolves' opponent tonight at Target Center. And three nights after getting shut down by L.A., Love had 24 points and 17 rebounds against the OKC Thunder -- starting a string of 46 consecutive double-doubles he brings into tonight's game.
As such, we thought now would be a good time to go inside the numb#rs of Love's streak for a deeper look at what he has accomplished:
*Number of times he's scored at least 20 points during the streak: 30 (though he's been held under 20 in five of his last seven).
*Number of times he's had at least 20 rebounds during the streak: 7.
*Number of times he's had at least 15 rebounds during the streak: 32.
*Number of 30/20 games during the streak: 3.
*Close calls: Love entered the fourth quarter against Memphis on Feb. 2 with just four points. But he scored six in the final quarter to finish with exactly 10 points and 10 rebounds. ... In total, he's had 8 games with 10 or 11 rebounds and 7 games with 10, 11 or 12 points. ... Until his 37/23 game the other night, he seemed a little vulnerable -- posting lines of 12/11, 15/11, 11/14 in three of his previous five games.
*Number of individual games during the streak in which he has shot 50 percent or better from the field: 20.
*Number of times during the streak that he's had at least seven offensive rebounds in a game: 13.
*Wolves' record during the streak: 10-36 (.278 winning percentage).
*Wolves' record before the streak: 4-10 (.286 winning percentage).
*Number of times he failed to get a double-double before the streak started: 5 of 16 games.

Name: Tyrone Corbin
Claim to Fame, Minnesota: one of the original Timberwolves, Corbin was drafted by Minnesota in the 1989 expansion draft from Phoenix. I vaguely recall him being a fan favorite during his time here, which is probably more of a “damning with faint praise” thing than anything else. Can anyone else confirm/deny? Corbin can lay claim to recording the first triple-double in team history. The Wolves traded him to Utah for Thurl Bailey and Utah’s 2nd-round draft pick in 1992. If I’m reading the draft positions correctly, they used it on Tim Burroughs. No, I don’t remember him, either.
Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: how much of a journeyman was Ty Corbin? The DePaul alum played for nine different teams, including two separate stints with the Hawks and Kings, over the course of 16 seasons. Among the many players he was traded for: current Mayor of Sacramento Kevin Johnson, Spud Webb, Billy Owens, and Eric Montross. After retiring, Corbin worked with the excellently-named Charleston Lowgators and the New York Knicks before accepting an assistant coach gig with the Jazz in 2004.
Where He Is Now: is the new head coach of the Utah Jazz, replacing Jerry Sloan. Unfortunately, the Jazz are winless so far in his tenure, but at least they still have one of the game’s best point--oh, well then. As Kris Humphries might say, good luck with that, Tyrod! Corbin also has a wife and two children, one of whom is a top Utah HS basketball player.

Glorious Randomness: Corbin was NOT one of the starting five for the first Timberwolves game. For future reference/bar trivia night: Sam Mitchell, Tod Murphy, Brad Lohaus, Tony Campbell and Sidney Lowe. Mitchell scored the first basket, but the second “d” in Tod Murphy’s first name was never found.

Mid-day talker: Do you think Kevin Love really finds his streak to be a "distraction"

Love said he knew he was approaching another double-double. His streak dates to a scoreless game against the Lakers on Nov. 19.
"Everybody in the whole crowd was yelling it," he said. "In some ways, I was like, 'OK. I'd love to tie this thing.' But in a lot of ways, I was like, 'I just wish this thing would end so I could go out there and just start playing again.' In some ways, it's become a distraction and in some ways, I just need to get past it. It's part of the maturity process, getting past it and keep playing."
It seems like Love is experiencing The Stress of Both Worlds, much like former guard Troy Hudson. He wants to be known as a team guy who wants to win. But he also clearly is keeping an eye on his stats.
Though we might not be as dubious as Reusse, we have to think Love very much enjoys this streak and the attention that comes with it. Anyone who has seen him jump over the back of a teammate to grab a late rebound knows it's on his mind -- for better or worse. The franchise's best player is right, even if he might not believe what he said. The sooner this streak ends, the better it will be for his focus and overall game. The 44 consecutive double-doubles are nice, but they haven't even yielded double-digit victories (9-35 during the run).

Granted, it's in just two games. But still.
After we suffered through last night's game -- each time we yelled and/or used the word [redacted], the RBBH repeated what we said, pretending it was a tweet and then said, "This tweet is not endorsed by the Star Tribune" -- we felt we were entitled.
The Wolves need a break. And we think fans might need a break from them. Maybe in the first game after the All-Star game, Minnesota won't give up a six-point possession like they did last night: Free throw. Missed free throw. Offensive rebound. Layup and foul. Missed free throw. Offensive rebound and three-pointer.
Early third quarter. We didn't have to look it up, but there it is. How a one-point deficit becomes a seven-point deficit, by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
