When the Shattuck-St. Mary's School girls' prep hockey team opens its season this weekend, there will be a Lemieux and a Crosby on the ice -- Stephanie Lemieux, the 15-year-old daughter of Penguins owner Mario Lemieux, and Taylor Crosby, the 14-year-old sister of Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby.
"They're just regular teenage girls. They're hard working and dedicated," Shattuck coach Dan Koch said Wednesday. "They just go about their business like any other kids here. They're very focused in both hockey and academics."
By the time Hanna Brodt made it 4-0 at 7:12 of the third period, it was pretty well over. Roseville used its speed and depth to head Edina off at the pass all evening. And when the Hornets got to the net, goaltender Erika Allen had the answer. And now the Raiders have their third state championship, adding to the titles gained in 1996 and 1999.
No scoring in the second, but Roseville's team speed gave the Raiders a noticable edge in play.
Capistrant made in 2-0 at 3:48 of the first period with her second goal of the game. Ahna Logan made it 3-0 at 13:16 of the period. Penalty troubles that hurt Edina all tournament stung again. The Hornets took five penalties, one that led to a Roseville power-play goal and one that negating an Edina power play.
