John Thomas joins Wolves and Lynx as VP of Community Engagement

John Thomas was a star at Minneapolis Roosevelt High School, at the University of Minnesota and he appeared in 208 NBA games, including some time with the Timberwolves. Now he has rejoined the Timberwolves/Lynx organization as vice president of community engagement.

In the role Thomas will be responsible for overseeing community relations efforts. He will also run and grow the organization's basketball academy and develop a NBA/WNBA alumni program. He will start next week.

Thomas has spent the last four years as the national training manager for Life Time Fitness, where he led the basketball training division for Ultimate Hoops. He has also worked with the National Basketball Retired Players Association to help former NBA, WNBA, ABA and Harlem Globetrotters transition into life after the game.

"I would like to thank Glen Taylor and Ethan Casson for providing me with the opportunity to rejoin the organization in a new and exciting role,'' Thomas said in a release. "They say, 'Home is where the heart is,' and that rings especially true for me.''

Wolves' Karl-Anthony Towns left off All-NBA teams

Karl Anthony Towns of the Timberwolves did not make any of the three All-NBA teams, announced Thursday, despite averaging 25.1 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.

Towns had the highest vote total of players who were not All-NBA, including two first place votes.

LeBron James of Cleveland was named All-NBA first team for a record-tying 11th time, and James Harden of the Rockets was a unanimous choice. Also on the first team were Russell Westbook of Oklahoma City, Kawhi Leonard of San Antonio and New Orleans center Anthony Davis.

The All-NBA second team included Milwaukee forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Utah center Rudy Gobert, Boston guard Isaiah Thomas and Golden State’s Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

The third team is Jimmy Butler of Chicago, Draymond Green of the Warriors, DeMar DeRozan of Toronto, John Wall of Washington and DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers.

Jordan got the final spot with 54 points, four more than Towns.

The All-NBA teams were chosen by a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
