Garnett agrees to two-year deal; Wolves sign first-round picks Towns, Jones

Kevin Garnett will return for a 21st NBA season on a two-year contract, according to a league source with knowledge of an agreement that's been considered mostly a formality for weeks.

Like the three-year deal the Wolves and Nemanja Bjelica agreed to, Garnett's deal can be signed according to NBA rules starting on Thursday.

The agreement likely has a provision that Garnett will move into a managerial role with the team if he is not healthy enough to play the 2016-17 season.

Garnett will join Robert Parish and Kevin Willis as the only players to play 21 NBA seasons.

The Wolves also signed first-round picks Karl-Anthony Towns and Tyus Jones to contracts, formalities given the NBA's slotted rookie pay scale.

On the day the team traded for Garnett back in February, Wolves owner Glen Taylor said the move wasn't made for merely the season's remaining six weeks but that he expected Garnett to play another season and quite possibly two more.

Garnett played just five games after that late February trade because of what the team called knee issues. Coach/basketball boss Flip Saunders said late in the season that Garnett's caution with his body was a sign that he intended to return to play a 21st pro season.

Saunders often has praised Garnett's veteran influence on a team filled with young players and credited his presence for the way Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine finished the season strong.

Wolves roster set for Las Vegas summer league

The Wolves summer-league team begins practices this afternoon at their new Mayo Clinic Square practice facilities, and just in time there's a full roster that includes first-round picks Karl-Anthony Towns and Tyus Jones as well as second-year players Zach LaVine and Adreian Payne.

Reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins, Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng all will practice with the team this week in Minneapolis -- and are expected to play in Wednesday's Summer Showcase scrimmage at Target Center -- but aren't scheduled to play in Las Vegas Summer League, which begins Friday with a 7:30 p.m. game against D'Angelo Russell and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lorenzo Brown, Brady Heslip and Othyus Jeffers -- familiar names all to Wolves' training-camp and summer-league rosters -- also are part of the 13-man roster listed below.

Soon-to-be-signed Nemanja Bjelica is not expected to be part of summer-league play and Anthony Bennett is not set to practice or play, either. Whether that's all about Bennett's commitment to play for Canada in this month's Pan Am Games and next month's Olympic qualifier or about his future with the franchise...

Wolves assistant coach Ryan Saunders will coach the summer-league team.

Other news today: The Milwaukee Bucks announced they will hold the opening days of their training camp at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and will return there to play the Wolves in a preseason game at the Kohl Center on Oct. 20. The Wolves also are set to play preseason games as part of the NBA's Canada Series, in Winnipeg and Ottawa, as well.

Here's the roster announced by the Wolves today:
