Wolves roster set for Las Vegas summer league

The Wolves summer-league team begins practices this afternoon at their new Mayo Clinic Square practice facilities, and just in time there's a full roster that includes first-round picks Karl Anthony-Towns and Tyus Jones as well as second-year players Zach LaVine and Adreian Payne.

Reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins, Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng all will practice with the team this week in Minneapolis -- and are expected to play in Wednesday's Summer Showcase scrimmage at Target Center -- but aren't scheduled to play in Las Vegas Summer League, which begins Friday with a 7:30 p.m. Central game against D'Angelo Russell and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lorenzo Brown, Brady Heslip and Othyus Jeffers -- familiar names all to Wolves' training-camp and summer-league rosters -- also are part of the 13-man roster listed below.

Soon-to-be-signed Nemanja Bjelica is not expected to be part of summer-league play and Anthony Bennett is not set to practice or play, either. Whether that's all about Bennett's commitment to play for Canada in this month's Pan Am Games and next month's Olympic qualifier or about his future with the franchise...

Wolves assistant coach Ryan Saunders will coach the summer-league team.

Other news today: The Milwaukee Bucks announced they will hold the opening days of their training camp at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and will return there to play the Wolves in a preseason game at the Kohl Center on Oct. 20. The Wolves also are set to play preseason games as part of the NBA's Canada Series, in Winnipeg and Ottawa, as well.

Here's the roster announced by the Wolves today:

Bjelica opts out of Europe deal, clears way to join Wolves

The Turkish team Fenerbahce Ulker overnight announced that Euroleague MVP Nemanja Bjelica has exercised an opt clause in his contract to leave for the NBA,

That clears the way for the Wolves to sign him, five years after David Kahn drafted him 35th overall in the 2010 NBA draft.

Expect Bjelica to sign a three-year deal worth at least $12 million, possibly more. The Wolves will use a good portion of their mid-level exception to sign him.

He was under contract with Fenerbahce until the clock struck midnight last night.

That's one more frontcourt player -- Bjelica is a natural "stretch" power forward who has the skills to play small forward, but you'd have to probably hide him defensively at that position -- coming to a team that already has Karl Anthony-Towns, Nikola Pekovic, Gorgui Dieng, to-be-signed Kevin Garnett and probably Robbie Hummel, Adreian Payne and Anthony Bennett.

That's A LOT of power forwards and center, which means they'll be some kind of trade or move either before training camp or by opening night.

Bjelica is 6-10, but played guard before he had a growth spurt. He has a guard's playmaking skills, but in a power forward's body. No question he has NBA skills offensively.Defense will be the question,

Bjelica is expected to sign by next week, but he's not expected to play with the Wolves' summer-league team in Las Vegas.

If you haven't seen him, here's a clip from his Euroleague play the last couple years.
