We were going to start the day with an NCAA men's basketball post, but then we realized that the content Stu dropped in our lap last night has a relatively short shelf life. Stu is exceedlingly excited about today's 11 a.m. Class 1A state tournament quarterfinal in girls' basketball between Buffalo Lake-Hector and Goodhue. As always, do not take everything (anything?) he says too seriously. And please, good people of Goodhue: feel free to poke fun at Stu in the comments. But still: humorous as always. Stu?

Buffalo Lake-Hector takes on Goodhue in the Class 1A quarterfinals today at Williams Arena. Although I am a native of Hector, I will attempt to break down the match-up in a clinical, dispassionate manner that weighs the merits of both schools and the towns they represent. Even Goodhue, despite the fact that they hate baby puppies and wanted Russia to win the Cold War.

RECORD: Goodhue is 23-7. BL-H is 26-4, and defeated #1-ranked Cedar Mountain-Morgan in overtime before dispatching Granada-Huntley-East Chain to get to state. ADVANTAGE: BL-H

SOCIAL MEDIA: there is a Fans of Hector, Minnesota Facebook page that includes pictures of Buck "Rock & Roll" Zumhofe. The Buffalo Lake Liquor Store also has a fan page. Goodhue: nada. ADVANTAGE: BL-H

PROXIMITY TO A DAIRY QUEEN: BL-H is 14 miles from the one in Olivia, while Goodhue is less than 10 miles from the one in Zumbrota. Advantage: Goodhue.

FAMOUS PEOPLE: the late actress Dorothy Peterson was born in Hector. Goodhue has no famous people according to the Internet. The Internet is rarely wrong about anything. Advantage: BL-H.

RESISTANCE TO MILE-WIDE TORNADOES: well done, Buffalo Lake. ADVANTAGE: BL-H

TOURNAMENT EXPERIENCE: this is BL-H's first appearance in the state tournament. Goodhue is making their second consecutive appearance. Advantage: Goodhue.

MINNESOTA HISTORY: Goodhue is named after James Madison Goodhue, publisher of Minnesota's first newspaper. Buffalo Lake is named after a lake that isn't there. Hector is named after a character in the Iliad because someone else got to Milford first. DECIDED ADVANTAGE: Goodhue.

FINAL ANALYSIS: despite having a cool name, tournament experience, and readier access to Strawberry Cheesequake Blizzards, the numbers just don't favor Goodhue. Look for Buffalo Lake-Hector to advance.
