To show how BIG-TIME Stu has become, we are linking to a piece he authored just a little while ago over at Twinkie Town. It seems that Hall of Fame voter Jay Mariotti used a bit of flawed logic. Shocking, right! This wouldn't normally be news, but in this case it cost Bert Blyleven a Hall of Fame vote and further exposed the flaws in the voting process. (Note: Deadspin also noted this issue in a wee hours post).

Said Mariotti on the unwatchable ESPN program that shall not be named but features ranting and arbitrary points being awarded:

"I didn't vote for anybody in the baseball hall of fame this year. Ya know why? To me…the first ballot is sacred. I think Roberto Alomar is an eventual Hall of Famer, not the first time. Edgar Martinez, designated hitter, eventually, but not the first time. Same goes for maybe Fred McGriff. As far as Blyleven and Dawson…if they haven't gotten in for years and years I cannot vote them in now."

That would be ridiculous enough, but there's more! Turns out Jay voted for Blyleven AND Dawson the previous year. How do we know? Jay couldn't wait to tell us!

I also voted for Andre Dawson and Bert Blyleven, who drew closer to 75 percent but still aren't quite in. Most importantly, I didn't vote for McGwire.

Even though he's previously deemed them worthy and tried to get them in. Remarkable. Maybe a Hall of Fame this flawed isn't something Blyleven even wants to be a part of (though we suspect that really isn't true).
