Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could convince the world to love jumpsuits as much as he does. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Thursday (John Wall, Jonny Flynn and the Wolves) edition: Wha' Happened?

Posted by: Michael Rand under Sports Updated: December 10, 2009 - 9:48 AM

Last night was an interesting one if you are interested, like we are, in the conundrum that could face the Timberwolves next June. On one channel, one could watch the further maturation of Jonny Flynn, who had 14 points and 9 assists -- which might have been good enough to lead the Wolves over the Hornets and Chris Paul if Flynn hadn't, you know, forgotten to follow Paul to the hoop on the game's most critical play. Still, for anyone who watched it was a reminder that Flynn has the tools and makeup to be a very effective point guard in the NBA for a long time.

That said, on another channel one could check out Kentucky freshman John Wall, who was once again impressive with a career-high 25 points for the undefeated Wildcats in a victory over UConn. Wall, of course, is a point guard. He could be a once-every-5-to-10-years kind of talent. And, with a little bit of luck -- albeit the kind that has escaped the Wolves for the vast majority of their existence -- he could be available to them in the 2010 draft. Of course, the Wolves already have Flynn. They also have a certain someone named Ricky Rubio. And let's not forget Ramon Sessions signed a four-year contract, so he's still very much part of the picture.

Keeping in mind this is all a very long way off and a lot can happen between now and the draft, philosophically speaking right now: would you want the Wolves to take Wall if they had the chance, or should they honor the plan they've put into place with Flynn and co.?
