Twins outfielder Torii Hunter tweeted his support for Floyd Mayweather in Saturday's night's fight against Manny Pacquiao ...

... and got some blowback for doing so:

Then, Hunter added this (in a tweet he'd deleted as of early Sunday morning) ...

... and many on Twitter came back at him:

Here's some of it:

That last tweet referred to a comment Hunter made to a Los Angeles Times reporter in a 2012 story about gay athletes in pro sports. Hunter said having a teammate who came out would be difficult for him: "For me, as a Christian … I will be uncomfortable because in all my teachings and all my learning, biblically, it's not right. It will be difficult and uncomfortable."

Last year Hunter also spoke out when he made a radio ad for a candidate for governor in Arkansas (where Hunter is from), in which the Twins outfielder said he supported Asa Hutchinson because, "Asa is committed to the principles we hold dear, like a strong faith in God, equal justice for all and keeping marriage between one man and one woman."

One of the people who came to Hunter's defense was former Twins teammate Jacque Jones:

Later Saturday, Hunter added another tweet (now also removed) intended to clarify what he'd written earlier:

He received a mixed response:

Hunter is signing autographs ($40-$65) and posing for photos ($25) Sunday night at a store in the Ridgedale Mall. Wonder if the discussion will turn to places it wouldn't have before Saturday night's fight.
