U-18 U.S. team beats Gophers in overtime, nationally diverse roster shows less dependency on Minnesota talent, read Friday night's game story.

Creating scoring opportunites wasn't easy for the Gophers for the second straight weekend. They lost the shots on goal battle 40-29 as the big and speedy U-18 U.S. National Developmental Team clogged up their offensive zone in a 5-4 overtime defeat.

Despite the loss, the Gophers did get a boost from unusual scorers Ryan Reilly, Jack Glover and Steve Johnson, but were missing support from the top lines once again. Kyle Rau scored late, but the top two lines only had 14 shots on goal.

Wisconsin-committed goaltender Luke Opilka recorded 24 saves for the U.S. team.

"Obviously it was a tough game," said Glover, a U.S. national developmental team program alum. "We didn't come out the way we wanted to. We didn't have the start we wanted to. We just couldn't really recover from the first 10 minutes or so, which is disappointing because we were going to try and use this game as a building block for the next couple weeks."

Glover also said he never thought he'd come to Minnesota and be upset by his alma mater. Hear more from him, Ryan Reilly and Don Lucia in the below video.

Big Ten conference play started this weekend. The Gophers don't open begin their conference schedule until the first weekend of December. Here's the Big Ten results through Friday night:
