Grand Rapids, Minn., basketball standout Alex Illikainen, who is playing his senior season at a New Hampshire prep school, has committed to Wisconsin for the 2015 season.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Illikainen made a verbal commitment during a recruiting visit over the weekend. While Minnesota had been among the 6-foot-9 forward's finalists, the Journal Sentinel reported that his final two schools had been Wisconsin and Iowa. He also had been recruited by former Gophers coach Tubby Smith, who is now at Texas Tech.

After averaging 26 points and 11 rebounds per game for Grand Rapids High School as a junior, Illikainen decided to play for Brewster Academy this senior, a school with a reputation for getting top players ready for Division I college basketball.

"The 2013-'14 team featured players who signed with Georgetown, Kansas, Memphis, Louisville, Virginia and San Diego State," the Journal Sentinel Jeff Potrykus reported.
