It's no secret the Gophers have been successful in Bemidji. They are 4-0-1 when Bemidji State hosts and hold an overall seven-game winning streak against the Beavers.

However, four of the last seven have been by a goal and two went into overtime. The Beavers will be eager to break that trend this weekend in their home opener at the Sanford Center.

Bemidji State coach Tom Serratore knows it'll be difficult and isn't buying into the idea the Gophers are young and inexperienced. Earlier this week he pointed out how every year the Gophers get two to three of the country's best 20 players.

It might even be more this year. Four Gophers freshmen – Hudson Fasching, Justin Kloos, Vinni Lettieri, Michael Brodzinski – scored goals in the first week of the season.

This will be the Gophers first meeting with a former in-state Western Collegiate Hockey Association rival. Bemidji State opened their season with another former WCHA member, St. Cloud State, last weekend on the road.

The weekend series will also be a showcase of Tom Serratores. The Gophers senior forward and the Bemidji State coach share the same name and blood line. The Beavers coach is uncle to the younger Tom.
