Lynx get one-sided win

The Lynx have a little in-the-locker room fine system. Any time a player makes the other team look foolish, they get a fine, though the specifics aren’t revealed.

According to Maya Moore, Monica Wright is due a fine for her entire body of work Sunday.

What a game. Wright – a great matchup with the athletic Dream – had perhaps the best night of her career. She had a career playoff-high 20 points on 9-for-14 shooting with five rebounds, three assists, three steals and she took two charges.

She was a one-person wrecking crew.

She was, quite simply, the best player on the court tonight.

And that’s saying something, considering Maya Moore and Seimone Augustus combined to score 42 points on 19-for-31 shooting.

Here are some other thoughts from tonight’s game:

--First, some news. The Lynx announced that Timberwolves players Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio have combined to buy 500 tickets for Tuesday's Lynx game. The first 250 fans to call 612-673-8400 will get a pair of free tickets to the game.

--The grit Janel McCarville showed playing with a bad back was impressive. She was hurting. You could tell it in her face. By the third quarter she was really feeling it. And yet she played good defense on Erika de Souza, scored seven points with five rebounds and four assists. She also had a block.

--The most amazing stat of the night was the 2-for-36 shooting performance by the Dream on shots outside the paint. Included in that stat is the 0-for-15 the Dream was from behind the three-point arc.

This was more than just the Dream missing shots. This was good defense. The Lynx would not let the Dream get dribble penetration, forced them to take jumpers. And the Dream is not a good jump-shooting team.

--It might not totally show up in the stats, but backup center Devereaux Peters have a very strong game as well. She only scored four points. But she played some nice post defense, got seven rebounds – three on the offensive end – and had three assists and FOUR steals. She and Wright combined to give the Lynx a huge edge from the bench.

--Kudos to Rebekkah Brunson, who played great defense on Angel McCoughtry tonight. Brunson only scored four points. Heck, she only took six shots. But she had eight rebounds – five on the offensive end – and had three assists.

--Let’s talk assists. Only one Atlanta player – Armintie Herrington – had more than two assists. Seven Lynx players had two or more. You talk about sharing the ball. Lynx post players combined for 10 assists, more than the eight the Dream had as a team.

--So what do I expect out of Game 2? I expect Atlanta to come back hard. I expect them to hit more shots. I expect the game will be tight well into the second quarter. But I think the Lynx will take a 2-0 series lead to Atlanta on Wednesday.

That’s about all for now. Have a good night.
