Jerry Zgoda missed the entire Kevin Garnett era, but he's back covering the Timberwolves after working the beat for their first four seasons two decades ago. In between, he covered a bit of everything: Gopher men's and women's basketball and NCAA athletics, golf, outdoor recreation, sports media and a little Vikings and Twins.
Bad news for the Wolves tonight at Target Center.
Portland guard Wes Matthews warmed up before tonight's game and considered his sprained ankle good enough to go.
He made five threes and scored a season-high 30 points when these two teams played in Portland in November, then made five more and scored 26 when the Blazers won here in January.
He and rookie backcourt mate Damian Lillard have just clobbered the Wolves with their outside shooting so far this season.
"It's hard to figure out, but both games they've just shot the lights out," Wolves coach Rick Adelman said.
