Phil Miller is returning to his Big Ten roots to follow Minnesota’s football fortunes for the Star Tribune after a decade of chronicling the NBA and Major League Baseball. The Illinois native began his writing career by covering Utah football for six seasons, and still insists that 12-1 Florida stole the 2009 BCS Championship from the unbeaten Utes.
Email Phil to talk about the Gophers.
The Gophers received official paperwork Wednesday, the first day transfer students can accept football scholarships, from Damien Wilson, a linebacker from Jones County (Miss.) Junior College, the university announced.
The 6-3, 230-pound Wilson made 122 tackles in nine games for Jones County last season, ranking second in the league. He chose Minnesota over Kansas and Louisiana Tech, among other schools. Wilson plans to enroll in time for the start of the semester in January and will take part in spring practices.
