Defenseman Jonas Brodin, who broke his clavicle when nailed by a Taylor Hall charge in Oklahoma City last Friday, underwent successful surgery late yesterday.

GM Chuck Fletcher indicated this was the course of treatment he preferred, but the decision would be left up to Brodin after consultation with team doctors yesterday afternoon. Fletcher said yesterday that surgery would entail having a plate inserted.

Brodin will miss two to three months, meaning if the lockout ends as hoped this month, Brodin's immediate jump to the NHL is impossible for now.

Mikael Granlund is also out two to four weeks with a sprained ankle.

The NHL and NHLPA will meet for a second day in a row this afternoon in New York. Today is huge -- on the docket is the "Make Whole" proposition that the league has indicated the owners would now absorb. That means, the league is indicating that the players will be paid in full on previously-signed contracts with no strings attached.

If momentum continues, we could be in the beginning of the end. My guess: the league would love to start by Thanksgiving or Dec. 1. If you can get in a 64-game season, that would be perfectly suited for an all-conference schedule.

Perhaps there will be news on today's meeting later on, but as is often the case in these type of things, no news is good news.

I'll also be at Gophers availability this afternoon, so I'll be back later regardless.
