The University of Nebraska Board of Regents last week authorized Nebraska Omaha to enter into a letter of intent with developers for the construction of an on-campus arena. It will cost an estimated $76.3 million and seat about 7,500.

"UNO is very excited about the Regents’ support," UNO Chancellor John Christensen said. "It has been our goal to have a campus home for athletic events that also serves the entire university and the community. This decision moves us closer to that dream."

BEAVERS' HEX

Bemidji State has an unbelievable record at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb. The Beavers tied UNO 3-3 and beat the Mavericks 3-2 last weekend to improve their record in Omaha to 5-0-2 in their last seven games there.

BSU killed off all 11 penalties they took in the two games. And on Friday, sophomore goalie Andrew Walsh had a career-high 39 saves as BSU rallied from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits.

GWOZDECKY BEATS TECH AGAIN

Coach George Gwozdecky's Denver Pioneers swept Michigan Tech 5-1 and 5-2 last weekend. He has 51 career wins against the Huskies, the most against any team. But Tech impressed him the first night.

“I don't recall a Michigan Tech team as fast and as tough to play against as the team we played tonight,” Gwozdecky said. “They caught us out of position a lot in that first period. Sam (Brittain) really kept us in the game in that first period. We made some adjustments and I thought our positional play was a lot better after that.”

Brittain had 27 saves on Friday. Adam Murray had 36 saves on Saturday for DU. ,,, Freshman Quentin Shore of Denver had a goale in each game.

* Nicole Dupes Bostel has replaced Erich Bacher as director of media relations at DU. ... Bacher has left after 10 years to be assistant AD for public relations at Virginia. .. Mike Kennedy will temporarily fill in for Bacher on Pioneers' hockey.

* Gwozdecky's radio show can be heard at 7 p.m. Tuesday on Denver's 102.3 ESPN.

LEBLANC ON ROLL

Senior forward Drew LeBlanc of St. Cloud State had his fifth four-point game of his career on Friday as the Huskies beat Minnesota State 5-1. He had three assists and the last goal of the game.

LeBlanc also had a goal, his third of the season, as the Huskies won 5-1 again on Saturday.
