Gophers AD Norwood Teague spoke to reporters Monday about assistant men's basketball coach Saul Smith's DUI arrest over the weekend.

"We just can't have behavior like that," Teague said of the DUI arrest, which according to police came after Smith was pulled over on I-394 early Saturday morning. "It's just not good for anyone, it's embarrassing and I won't tolerate it.

"With a coach doing this, it's disappointing. The timing is one thing. The other thing is it's just not what we want."

Smith is on unpaid leave. Teague said he's not sure whether Smith will remain suspended until his Dec. 3 court date, though he reiterated the suspension is "indefinite." He said the university is still currently evaluating the situation.

"As far as just cause to fire [Saul Smith], we're evaluating everything that's going on now," Teague said. "Being on administrative leave and being unpaid is a pretty good penalty."

Teague said he and head coach Tubby Smith -- Saul's father -- decided they would disperse Saul's responsibilities amongst the staff while he's gone.

Teague said he talked to Saul on Sunday morning about the incident. "I think he was in a little bit of shock," Teague said.
