Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

If the Dodgers' acquisition of more than a quarter billion dollars worth of iffy Red Sox players was a long-term investment, we suppose the jury is still out. In the short term? Eh, not so good. The Dodgers are 6-12 since the trade, and while they remain just two games behind in the chase for the second wild card spot, plenty of other teams have joined the hunt.
If you would like a nice tidy symbol for what has gone wrong with these "Dodger Sox," look no further than Thursday, when new pitcher Josh Beckett was thrown out at first base from right field (and quite easily at that) by Carlos Beltran.
Take your time, Josh.
