Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Afternoon talker: Advertisements on high school Elite League hockey jerseys

Per a story on the Upper Midwest High School Elite Hockey League's web site, players will be wearing jerseys this fall with sponsors on them (the six sponsoring partners are pictured in that image, also from the site). From the story:
The new designs, put together by Gemini, take advantage of a model developed by European teams to increase league sponsorship.
"We've been discussing (this) for a few years because in order for us to generate more substantial sponsorship revenue we need to develop inventory that was going to be attractive to corporate Minnesota," said Elite League Marketing Specialist Robert Fallen.
The Elite League is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that focuses on providing high-level competition to high school hockey players in the Midwest.
The league, as noted, is a non-profit. That said, does this type of advertising on jerseys worn by high school players bother you? Or is it just a necessary part of business these days?
