Gophers coach Brad Frost announced today that Jordyn Burns has transferred from Syracuse to join the defending national championship women's team.

Burns can play defense or forward, and will be a sophomore this season. She was a standout during four seasons at Benilde-St. Margaret's before playing last season at Syracuse, where she had two goals and eight assists in 35 games on defense.

In other college hockey news, the "new" WCHA announced some plans for its first season after the college hockey reconfiguration, 2013-14. The nine teams (speculation continues that Alabama Huntsville will be added eventually, making it a 10 team league) will play 28 regular season games. The top team will get a bye in the playoffs into the Final Five, which will be played at a yet-to-be-determined site.

Shane Frederick of the Mankato Free Press did some digging and found out Anchorage and Fairbanks will play each other in the playoffs every season, unless one wins the league title. That money-saving measure is a portent of how this league will tighten finances.
