Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Friday (Maya, Magic and the rare quadruple basketball champion) edition: Wha' Happened?

Reader Irving K. posed an interesting question the other day (and also flattered us with compliments, but that is NOT why he is getting part of his e-mail published):

How many players have completed a championship grand slam: state high school, college national, professional and Olympic Gold? Maya Moore has a chance, did Magic win a state high school one? the Big O?

His question also included hockey players, but we decided to focus our (albeit brief) research this morning on basketball.

Irving was correct about Magic, who did accomplish the rare quardruple-championship. He led his high school team to an OT victory in the title game his senior year, led Michigan State to an NCAA title, won multiple NBA titles with the Lakers and took home Olympic gold in 1992. Jerry Lucas and Quinn Buckner also accomplished the feat, per this. Oscar Robertson, aka The Big O, never won an NCAA title but did win the other three. Michael Jordan never won a high school title, per this.

And yes, while we have to imagine it has been done before on the women's side, Maya Moore has a chance to accomplish the feat this summer in London. She was a three-time high school champ, a two-time college champ, won the WNBA title in her rookie season with the Lynx and is on the Olympic roster in London for the U.S.

Any additions from other sports (or from basketball) are welcome in the comments.
