Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could convince the world to love jumpsuits as much as he does. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

RGIII might have trouble in Washington with Mike Shanahan, Donovan McNabb says objectively

Posted by: Michael Rand under Vikings Updated: March 29, 2012 - 3:09 PM

Barry P. over at Deadspin has a nice breakdown of Donovan McNabb's rather curious -- or at least exclusionary -- comments about how various QBs have struggled under Redskins coach Mike Shanahan. He quotes McNabb on ESPN's First Take today:

"I have a couple of names for you that Mike Shanahan, quarterbacks he coached, and the lack of success that he's had. We had John Beck, who was 0-4. Rex Grossman, who was 6-11. Jay Cutler, who was his prized possession, 17-20. Jake Plummer, a guy who had success, led them to the AFC championship against Pittsburgh, as we know, and then benched him the next year because he wouldn't do what you wanted him to do, pretty much. Brian Griese, who was supposed to be the heir apparent to John Elway and hasn't had a lot of success."

Absent from the critique, which was related to how Shanahan might not be the best person to handle Robert Griffin III? McNabb himself, who once characterized his treatment in Washington as "disrespectful and disgraceful." The Redskins and Shanahan probably felt the same way about McNabb's performance, which included a lower QB rating than in any season except his rookie year. [That didn't stop the Vikings from nabbing him, but we digress].

By the way, out of curiosity, we went back and checked on how McNabb's local rec league basketball team fared. Looks like Donovan put up decent numbers -- about 10 points and 10 rebounds a game -- but that's not the best part. His team, Most Dominant Ever, seems to have lost in the Final Four. In overtime.
