This Newark Star-Ledger story on R.A. Dickey caught our attention via Deadspin, which pulled out the money graf: A "Star Wars" aficionado, R.A. Dickey calls the minivan their Millennium Falcon. His wife calls it "our big splurge" after he inked his $7.8 million contract with the Mets last winter.
But you should really go read the whole thing, which was a pretty nice tale of a ballplayer who has taken his lumps -- including a stint with the Twins -- and came out richer but still a good human being.
Dickey, in case you didn't follow his career after his one season with the Twins in 2009, has posted back-to-back ERAs of 2.84 and 3.28 with the Mets while making 58 combined starts the past two seasons.
