Tulsa World reporter Eric Bailey followed up on Tubby Smith's denial of interest in the University of Tulsa coaching job with the main reason why it doesn't make sense:
"(Smith) is making $1.8 million annually at Minnesota. It's believed that Doug Wojcik was making about $600,000 during his seventh and final season at Tulsa.
"After buying out Wojcik's contract for about $1.1 million (mostly from private funds), the question would be if Tulsa could raise more booster money to upgrade the salary of a high-profile coach. Low revenue (down 43 percent in the past seven years) was a reason that Wojcik was fired at Tulsa."
Also, it should be noted that Tulsa opted against spending big money on a football coach when Todd Graham left after the 2010 season to go to Pitt, which he has since left for Arizona State. The Golden Hurricane promoted an assistant coach to the head football job.
So there could be a philosophy at work in Tulsa. Fiscal sanity, perhaps?
Here's the rest of the report from Tulsa, which includes names of potential candidates, for which Tulsa would be a step up from their current positions.
