This is Amelia Rayno's third season on the Gophers men's basketball beat. She learned college basketball in North Carolina (Go Tar Heels!), where fanhood is not an option. In 2010, she joined the Star Tribune after graduating from Boston's Emerson College, which sadly had no exciting D-I college hoops to latch onto. Amelia has also worked on the sports desk at the Boston Globe and interned at the Detroit News.

Sampson's x-ray came back clean.

A team source confirmed that  Ralph Sampson III's X-ray came back clean after he rolled his left ankle in Thursday's game against Fairfield.

His ankle is still "just a tad bit soft," but he is expected to start Monday against Mount St. Mary's, in the last home game before heading to Orlando for the Old Spice Classic tournament.

Sampson turned his ankle in the final minutes of a 67-57 win over Fairfield, but still played 28 minutes.

Rodney Williams played just 21 minutes Thursday before lightly limping off the court after a Fairfield player came down on his ankle, but is reportedly fine, and did not get an X-ray.

Trevor Mbakwe -- who sprained his hand and thumb a week ago -- is still dealing with some tenderness but will also start. The forward wears a padded cover in practice to avoid any hits, but will go bare in Monday's game.
