MADISON, WIS.

Wisconsin stunned the No. 1-rated Gophers 3-1  at Kohl Center on Friday before 11,445.

The Badgers scored all three of their goals in the second period. Mark Zengerle and Keegan Meuer, the centers on the top two lines, scored 45 seconds apart early in the middle period for a 2-0 Wisconsin lead. Michael Mersch made it 3-0 at 11 minutes.

The Gophers avoided the shutout when Jake Hansen scored on a power play with 69 seconds left.

The Gophers (9-2, 6-1-0) had not been held to fewer than two goals this season. Freshman goalie Joel Rumpel of the Badgers (5-5-1, 4-4-1)  almost did, stopping 24 of 25 shots.
