Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could convince the world to love jumpsuits as much as he does. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Scratching a Niche: The Ballad of Gardy and Plouffe

Posted by: Michael Rand under Twins fans Updated: September 23, 2011 - 11:51 AM

Each week commenter Newbie writes about sports somewhat out of the mainstream. This week he touches on golf, NASCAR and Twins errors. Only two of the three are out of the mainstream. Newbie?

Golf - Women's

You are probably familiar with the men's Ryder Cup, but the women have the exact same event?  It is the Solheim Cup.  Same basic format for each.  And it is going on right now in Ireland.  The US women have beaten the European team the past three meetings.  For some reason Michelle Wie is playing with the women; it must be a new thing she is trying.  The women's tour has be churning out some fine talent, and these are the best of that group.
Round 2 starts tonight at 1:30am on the golf channel, so if you find yourself unable to sleep, put on your footy pajamas with the trap door, grab a pint of Guinness, and enjoy some quality golf.
The Chase for the Sprint Cup began last weekend.  This is NASCAR's versions of playoffs.  12 racers will vie for a championship.  There are still 9 race left, so look for one guy to try and get to his destination faster than 43 other guys, and if someone cuts him off, he will come after you.  Think of it like your Monday commute, where "Mr. BMW on his phone" has to get to the exit ramp before you do in order to get to his very important "international business meeting".  Seriously though, if one of the other 31 drivers gets in these guys way, it's not pretty.  It's like NASCAR made two lists; the winners and the losers.  But the losers have a chance to ruin the winners dreams and the winners won't let the losers forget which list they are on.  It may be the only sport where a non-playoff team can affect the outcome of a championship.  So that at least makes it interesting.  Even if Jimmie Johnson does not.

I went to Trevor Plouffe's baseball reference page and found it slightly ironic that below his stats it says "Report an Error." I'm sure this is on everyone's page and is asking about website troubles, but with him you can never be sure. So it got me thinking.  Stealing a bit (by permission) from Clearance Clarence, I can't help but imagine Gardy going back to his office after starting Plouffe in the field, watching an error or two unfold, and then cracking open a bottle of tequila to forget.
This is the video with the alternate lyrics for national airplay.  Also, the part of Gardy is played by Kenny Chesney and the part of Trevor Plouffe is played by Grace Potter and her recently lengthened legs.

Trevsy, here you are again

Kicking dust in the wind
Waiting for that ball to land in your glove (get behind the ball!)

I made it up to the Budweiser Deck
Hell bent on getting high
High above the lights of town

'Cause Plouffe and Tequila make me crazy
Run like poison in my blood
One more error could kill me, Trevsy

One is one too many, one more is finally enough
90 feet is 90 feet
Seems like something worth practicing
And there were times I thought you would

It's so easy to forget
all the home runs you can hit
Sure would like to see those again

'Cause Plouffe and Tequila make me crazy
Run like poison in my blood
One more errant [redacted] throw could kill me, Trevsy

One is one too many, one more is finally enough

When it comes to you
Oh, the extra spring training days we could do
It's always your inability to throw even 5 [redacted] feet
That do you in

'Cause Plouffe and Tequila make me crazy
Run like poison in my blood
One more kicked ball to the outfield could kill me, Trevsy

One is one too many, one more is finally enough
