The state's electronic licensing system is up and running at the usual retail sites, the DNR says. "You should be able to go to stores right now and buy a license,'' said DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr. That means boat and other licenses also can be renewed. Licenses also can be bought via phone, but online sales won't be fully operational until Thursday, the DNR says. Some readers have reported having problems at some outlets. I called Gander Mountain in Lakeville, and they reported their electronic licensing system was, indeed, operating. And DNR officials said other reports indicate there have been no problems. A DNR employee bought a license in Grand Rapids. "With more than 2,500 vendors, I'd expect there to be a few problems for a day or two,'' Landwehr said. The state's website still hasn't been restored, so people obviously can't buy licenses online yet or make park reservations. But Landwehr is hopeful that will be restored soon. Once the DNR website is up, and it will show the status of state parks with green, yellow or red codes. Green parks will be open immediately; opening of those coded yellow will be delayed; those marked red will remain closed due to storms or vandalism. DNR employees will return to work on Thursday.
