Jerry Zgoda missed the entire Kevin Garnett era, but he's back covering the Timberwolves after working the beat for their first four seasons two decades ago. In between, he covered a bit of everything: Gopher men's and women's basketball and NCAA athletics, golf, outdoor recreation, sports media and a little Vikings and Twins.
So talkative last weekend about his interest in the Wolves' coaching job, Don Nelson tonight from Hawaii went quiet, deferring questions about his candidacy to David Kahn.
You know what that means?
It means you can expect him into town -- probably still this week -- to join Terry Porter on the list of candidates who will interview for the job.
On Friday night, Nelson talked at length about the Wolves' job, his interest in it and the team's roster when reached at his Maui beach home.
On Monday night, he politely declined to answer whether he has been invited to Minnesota to interview, saying he didn't want to say anything publicly that would offend Kahn.
